Professor Uppamthadthil will provide an overview of the contours of Hindu-Christian dialogue in India today. He will discuss both the challenges and successes of Hindu-Christian encounter while offering examples of what Christians might learn from Hindu religion and philosophy.

Emmanuel Uppamthadathil is currently a visiting scholar of religion at Augsburg College. An ordained Catholic priest, he is the provincial admonitor and councilor of education for North East India Province of the Missionaries of St. Francis De Sales and the manager of the St. Francis de Sales School in Guwahati Assam, India. He is former professor of philosophy at Suvidgya College in Bangalore, India, and has held visiting professorships at De Sales University in Pennsylvanian and the University of Dayton in Ohio. He completed his doctorate in philosophy at Banaras Hindu University. His recent publications include “Advaita Hermeneutics” in the Suvidya Journal of Philosophy and Religion, and “Ecosophy: The Buddhist Answer to the Environmental Crisis” in the Journal of Northeast Indian Cultures.
