Description

Best known as the architect of the Cathedral of St. Paul, E.L. Masqueray designed three buildings on the St. Thomas campus, including its iconic chapel. The University's Department of Art History explores these works in the context of the architect's writing, draftsmanship and other commissions, in the centennial anniversary of his death.

Panelists:

Alan Lathrop
Lathrop was curator of the Manuscripts Division at the University of Minnesota Libraries from 1970 to 2008. He is the author of Churches of Minnesota and Minnesota Architects.

Larry Millett
Millett is a writer and former reporter and editor for the St. Paul Pioneer Press, where in 1985 he became the newspaper's first architecture critic, a post he held until his retirement in 2002. His many works include Minnesota's Own: Preserving Our Grand Homes, Once There Were Castles: Lost Mansions and Estates of the Twin Cities, and Minnesota Modern: Architecture and Life at Midcentury.

Celeste Raspanti
Raspanti is the archivist for Cathedral of St. Paul in St. Paul, as well as a playwright and a retired university professor.

Johan van Parys
Van Parys is the director of liturgy and the sacred arts of the Basilica of St. Mary in Minneapolis, and the author of Symbols that Surround Us.

Moderated by Maria Wiering Pedersen, who holds an M.A. in Art History from the University of St. Thomas and curated the exhibition. Pedersen is also the editor of The Catholic Spirit newspaper.
