Citation

Nakjavani, Erik. “The Patterns of Narcissism in Hemingway’s The Garden of Eden.” In Literature and Psychology, edited by Frederico Preira, 21-26. Lisbon, Portugal: Instituto Superior, Psicologia Aplicada, 1991.

Annotation

Drawing on psychoanalytic theories, Nakjavani focuses on narcissism, androgyny, and bisexuality as lenses through which to evaluate Hemingway’s sexually dysfunctional characters, David, Marita, and foremost Catherine. Regards Catherine’s obsession and mounting monomania as resulting from a possessive and ultimately destructive self-love, which ultimately diminishes her.
