Document Type
Article
Annotation
Source study detailing the facts of the 1909 scandalous death of aristocrat James Audley Blyth while on safari with his wife and hunting guide, J. H. Patterson. Hemingway had heard the tale from his own hunting guide Philip Percival, whose older brother had been displaced as Senior Game Warden of the East Africa Protectorate by Patterson in 1907. Remains unknown how Percival’s personal connection affected his telling of the campfire story.
