Annotation
Semiotic approach to presuppositions in dialogue taken from three Hemingway short stories: “The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber,” “Hills Like White Elephants,” and “The Doctor and the Doctor’s Wife.” Analyzes, for example, the presupposed solution regarding Wilson’s shooting the lion. Posits that Macomber’s revisionist history of the event, that Wilson saved his life, covers up his cowardice.
