Citation

Barlowe-Kayes, Jamie. “Re-Reading Women: The Example of Catherine Barkley.” Hemingway Review 12, no. 2 (Spring 1993): 23-35.

Annotation

Deconstructionist-feminist approach to understanding Hemingway’s relationship with and treatment of women in both his personal life and canon. Using Catherine Barkley/Agnes von Kurowsky as an example, Barlowe-Kayes criticizes scholarship that readily accepts the Hemingway mythos, perpetuating the stereotype and legend he left behind while ignoring the intricacies of those mute women.
