Re-Reading Women: The Example of Catherine Barkley
Document Type
Article
Annotation
Deconstructionist-feminist approach to understanding Hemingway’s relationship with and treatment of women in both his personal life and canon. Using Catherine Barkley/Agnes von Kurowsky as an example, Barlowe-Kayes criticizes scholarship that readily accepts the Hemingway mythos, perpetuating the stereotype and legend he left behind while ignoring the intricacies of those mute women.
