Annotation

Relies on information from recently opened archives to resolve unanswered questions regarding the composition dates and interrelationships of Hemingway’s posthumously published writings. Burwell’s examination argues that Hemingway began writing A Moveable Feast only after work on the African book stalled. Her study of the manuscripts suggests the African book’s true subject matter—the authorial anxieties of a declining artist.
