Annotation
Notes many points of correspondence between Hemingway and Peruvian poet César Vallego, including their time spent in avant-garde Paris and devotion to Spain. Compares Hemingway’s use of the Lord’s Prayer in “A Clean, Well-Lighted Place” to Vallejo’s “Funereal Tolling in Durango,” concluding that “Vallejo seems to be more of the layman, and Hemingway the renegade but still religious man.”
