How Did Hemingway Write?
Document Type

Annotation
Relying on Hemingway’s own theories of writing, Josephs develops five keys to unlocking the author’s methodology, including drawing on experience, omitting detail, visualizing images, evoking sensation, and poeticizing subtly. Proposes that these elements form a sort of equation, which Hemingway used to become the most important writer since Shakespeare. Also published in Josephs’s On Hemingway and Spain, Essays and Reviews, 1979-2013, 255-84. RI: New Street Communications, 2014.
