Annotation
Considers The Sun Also Rises, and to a lesser extent Death in the Afternoon and “Big Two-Hearted River,” from an ecocritical perspective, analyzing Hemingway’s critique of the social and ecological effects of the rapidly developing tourism industry. Analyzes how Hemingway differentiates travelers from tourists in The Sun Also Rises by privileging Jake’s traveler position (comparable to the author’s own) based on his war wounds and aficiόn, entitling him to exploit Spain despite the ecological impact.
