Annotation

Influence study. Explores parallels in plot, character, and theme, arguing that the later novel is essentially a Filipino re-envisioning of For Whom the Bell Tolls. Brown concludes that Bulosan’s mimicry signals his intent to examine postcolonial politics and draw attention to a marginalized cultural group.
