Title
Clean, Well-Spoken: Hemingway’s Cuban Spanish
Document Type
Internet Resource
Annotation
Noting the author’s facility with the language, support of Castro, and identification with the Cuban people, Herlihy-Mera urges a reconsideration of his classification as solely an American author. Transcribes and translates a 1954 Cuban Nobel Prize interview in which Hemingway discusses Cuba’s influence on The Old Man and the Sea and refers to the people of Cojímar as his people.
