Citation

O’Meara, Lauraleigh. “Shooting Cowards, Critics, and Failed Writers: F. Scott Fitzgerald and Hemingway’s Francis Macomber.” Hemingway Review 16, no. 2 (1997): 27-34.

Annotation

Posits that Hemingway based the cowardly Macomber in part upon Fitzgerald as retaliation for the latter’s unsolicited critique of Green Hills of Africa and other works. Like Macomber with Wilson, Fitzgerald overlooked Hemingway’s insults and maintained their friendship, at least superficially, until his death.
