Document Type
Essay
Annotation
Examines the Lost Generation’s conflicted relationship with the traditional model of the “American Dream” put forth by Franklin. Compares both the semiautobiographical Jake Barnes of The Sun Also Rises and the idealized Hemingway of A Moveable Feast to the young protagonist of Franklin’s Autobiography (1791), concluding that Franklin and Hemingway held remarkably similar ideals.
