Annotation

Profiles the life of pilot Alexander Cuninghame “Fatty” Pearson. Belknap recounts Pearson’s stint as an African bush pilot, his time as a commander of a World War II air squadron, which offered support to wounded soldiers at the front, and his tragic death in 1944. Briefly notes that Hemingway’s experience on one of Pearson’s African flights inspired the climax of “The Snows of Kilimanjaro.”
