Recalcitrant Simplicity: Thin Characters and Thick Narration in A Farewell to Arms

Annotation
Narratological approach using A Farewell to Arms to consider how thinly drawn characters limit the reader’s interpretative freedom and ability to imagine the other. Contends that the simplicity of Count Greffi and Catherine in both language and self-description reminds readers of their limited knowledge and inability to penetrate the text’s simplicity.
