Influence study. Interprets Hemingway’s parody of Sherwood Anderson’s Dark Laughter (1925) as the product of a young writer trying to break away from the influence of his former mentor. Suggests that Hemingway may have been creating an elaborate self-parody by mocking a style very near his own.
