Traces Hemingway’s use of stereotypes in his depiction of Indians in his short stories. Draws briefly on several texts, including “Ten Indians,” to illustrate two common camps: Indians as promiscuous, unfaithful, and lazy and Indians suffering rampant loss. Offers an extended analysis of the use of Indians as a satirical device in The Torrents of Spring.
