Annotation
Interprets the story considering Hemingway’s tragic vision, suggesting that contrary to those critics who read Harry as spiritually transcending his death, his only success is with delusion. Concludes that Harry, doomed by his poor choices and carelessness, has lost his chance as a writer and thus lies beyond the reach of salvation. Previously published in Black Mountain Review 8 (Oct. 1982).
