Trogdon, Robert W. “‘This Fine, Splendid Joke’: Jane Mason’s Safari.” Hemingway Review 21, no. 2 (2002): 125-28.

Annotation

Briefly notes parallels between Hemingway’s “The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber” and Green Hills of Africa and Mason’s Safari, especially in their reactions to Africa. Though seeing connections between the main characters, Margot Macomber and April, Trogdon reads April as more closely aligned with Hemingway’s earlier heroines who desire a stable home, e.g. “Hills Like White Elephants” and “Cat in the Rain.”
