Annotation
Brief recounting of the life and lackluster writing career of Arnold Samuelson, a journalism student whom Hemingway mentored between 1934 and 1935. Lacy relies on Samuelson’s posthumously published memoir, A Year with Hemingway in Key West (1984), as well as interviews with his daughter and neighbors, to provide biographical details of the journalist’s life. Lacy concludes that Samuelson suffered from an innate lack of writing talent precluding him from benefiting from Hemingway’s tutelage.
