Annotation

Influence study examining the ways in which Carver modeled his prose style on Hemingway’s techniques, including his reliance on minimalism, omission, and symbolism. Compares “Hills Like White Elephants” and “Cat in the Rain” to Carver’s “Will You Please Be Quiet, Please?”. Concludes that despite Carver’s intentional distancing of himself from Hemingway’s legacy, he was clearly following Hemingway’s technical style.
