Hemingway’s Feasts

Annotation
Offers a smorgasbord of food descriptions taken from articles, short stories, and novels spanning Hemingway’s canon. Meyers samples briefly from each, concluding that the protagonists’ hunger for sports, war, and women matches their appetite for food. Meyers writes: “Though tragedy destroys many of his heroes, rich feasts, devoured with gusto, are a constant source of sensual pleasure.” Includes references to The Torrents of Spring, The Sun Also Rises, A Farewell to Arms, Across the River and into the Trees, A Moveable Feast, and many others.
