Annotation
Studies the influence of the translator’s style and voice on the literary translations of four English novels into Finnish: Dubliners (1914), A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man (1916), A Farewell to Arms, and The Sun Also Rises. Concludes that Hemingway’s clipped, impersonal tone is often mitigated in translation by the inclusion of additional information and description, exposing the translator’s voice.
