The Changing Profession: Narratives in Contest; or, Another Twist in the Narrative Turn
Document Type

Annotation
Drawing on narrative theory, Phelan analyzes three different kinds of narrative (political, performance, and literary) to demonstrate the implicit contest of alternatives found within narratives. Using “In Another Country” as his literary example, Phelan concentrates on the story’s shift at midpoint from the injured American narrator to the Italian major.
