Annotation
Draws on Kant’s concept of the sublime in his comparison of The Old Man and the Sea and Turkish writer Bilge Karasu’s 1980 story of the fish-fisherman relationship, “The Prey.” Eren’s analysis of corresponding passages in both narratives grounds Kant’s theories in literary example and distinguishes The Old Man and the Sea as a major work of literature.
