Annotation

On Hemingway’s love of Italy, and the Veneto region in particular. Chronicles Hemingway’s return visits after World War I, beginning with his 1923 trip with first wife, Hadley Richardson, inspiring “Cat in the Rain” and “Out of Season.” Moriani describes the author’s 1948 return trip with fourth wife, Mary Welsh, where he spent time writing, hunting, fishing, traveling with the Italian translator of A Farewell to Arms, and socializing with Adriana Ivancich (inspiration for Renata of Across the River and into the Trees). Details Hemingway’s trips back to the area over the next few years, ending in 1954. Features a dozen black-and-white photographs. In English and Italian.
