Title
Virtual Papa: Ernest Hemingway’s Digital Presence
Document Type
Book Chapter
Annotation
Discusses the value for students to encounter the multidimensional figure of Hemingway found online (e.g. public celebrity, legendary sportsman, literary giant). Concludes that exposure to such a complicated and dynamic human being may inspire students to look beyond academia’s “official narratives” in their assigned class readings. Recommends a range of reputable sources on the web for accessing Hemingway’s early journalism, recording of his Nobel Prize acceptance speech, family scrapbooks, essays by well-known Hemingway scholars, and more. Appendix H (201-204) lists a variety of digital resources for lesson planning.
