Annotation
This note explores the Hemingway and Hall family connections to Massachusetts. After a discussion of Grace Hall Hemingway’s childhood visits to Nantucket, the argument examines the trip Hemingway took to Massachusetts with his mother when he was eleven years old in 1910 (the voyage was a rite of passage for all the Hemingway children when they turned eleven). This journey influenced Hemingway’s earliest surviving piece of fiction, “My First Sea Vouge.”
