Title
The Poetry of the Twentieth Chapter of Death in the Afternoon: Relationships between the Deleted and Published Halves
Document Type
Book Chapter
Annotation
Manuscript study. Commends Hemingway’s decision to cut the first half of chapter twenty as John Dos Passos advised. Junkins reads the chapter as a “condensed narrative poem.” Regards the excised writing as good but inappropriate for the context, functioning more as a buildup to the main idea of the chapter than as an integral part of it.
