Drawing on unpublished letters and other archival materials, Trogdon traces the longtime relationship between Hemingway and his publisher, Scribner’s, to flesh out Hemingway’s development as a professional writer appealing to a diverse audience. Trogdon’s extensive study of Hemingway’s business relationship with Scribner’s also includes the publisher’s influence on the form of individual works and promotion of finished works. Begins with Hemingway’s early move from Boni and Liveright following the 1925 publication of In Our Time and concludes with Scribner’s publication of Hemingway’s posthumous works.
