Reprints 1936 letter to Hemingway from journalist Richard Armstrong in response to Hemingway’s request for information on recent revolutionary activities as background for To Have and Have Not. Armstrong discusses the status of the Communist Party, reports terroristic killings, and describes the exile and death of automotive engineer Octavio Seigle. Grimes’s introduction details Hemingway’s relationship with Armstrong and his use of Armstrong’s materials in his novel.
