Annotation
Argues that Hemingway’s appropriation of Homer’s Odyssey in Islands in the Stream is one of resemblance rather than outright parallel, unlike the borrowings of his literary contemporaries. DeFalco provides a detailed analysis of Homeric influences on the posthumous novel to demonstrate how Hemingway intentionally limited similarities to keep the classical subtext from overwhelming the surface narrative.
