Document Type
Book Chapter
Annotation
Examines the reoccurring phenomenon of life review, the concept of life flashing before one’s eyes just prior to death, in several Hemingway texts including chapters XIV and XV of In Our Time, “The Snows of Kilimanjaro,” Islands in the Stream, and For Whom the Bell Tolls. Cirino focuses on the protagonists’ differing states of consciousness, concluding that their autobiographical perceptions at death reveal the way they viewed their lives.
