Classroom approach to Hemingway’s treatment of “expert” bullfighters and trackers in his experimental nonfiction. Focuses on Hemingway’s complicated portrayal of these minor characters as art forms, representing the standards and traditions of their sport at the expense of their ethnic identities and very humanity. Tangedal’s discussion raises issues of identity, imperialism, authority, and authorship.
