Title
"Shootism" Versus "Sport" in Hemingway’s "Macomber"
Document Type
Book Chapter
Annotation
Uses Hemingway’s three “Letters” on hunting appearing in Esquire (1934) as a lens for viewing Macomber’s unsportsmanlike behavior learned from his guide, Robert Wilson, who undoubtedly is familiar with the safari hunter’s code. Recommends such contextualizing for encouraging lively class discussion on issues ranging from Macomber’s cowardice to Wilson’s integrity and expertise.
