Invites students to view the events of “The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber” from the perspective of the lion. Hediger demonstrates through close reading of key passages how this sympathetic stance not only changes the way students respond to Hemingway’s writings (e.g., The Garden of Eden and The Old Man and the Sea) but also the way they think about culturally constructed gender norms and power relationships.
